7 years ago, I wasn’t a health and fitness professional. I ate fast food and ball park food daily. If it was easy and convenient , I ate it…As long as it didn’t involve veggies or fruit.
I remember the first time I heard “Clean Eating”. I was a fast food junkie and didn’t eat a single veggie & I hated fruit. I hated shakes, Gag. I honestly thought clean eating meant bland plain food. That couldn’t be further from the truth.
I wasn’t overweight but I wasn’t healthy. I felt uncomfortable in my own skin around the younger women & something had to change.
So, I changed my Mindset. It took some time learning about what I was willing to try and what I needed to eat more of that was better for me. I forced myself to just TRY. I knew I needed to learn for myself but more importantly for my child and my husband. It was worth the effort for long term results. I decided I was going to learn to like fruits and veggies. Still won’t touch a banana . I was going to learn what I COULD HAVE and what my body needed instead of focusing on what I couldn’t. I still had tacos and chocolate. I went out to dinner, to parties and enjoyed myself. I learned HOW to not look at discipline as a punishment but as self love. Meaning don’t eat a whole box of donuts. Just have one because more than one and I felt crappy. I learned to eat what worked for ME! Ever since, I have felt FREE! Free from dieting.
I started by making simple swaps and making healthier versions of our favorite dinners. Over the years it has evolved into a healthier overall daily menu and knowing what to choose and when. What my body actually needs and what it craves for the right reasons. But I still love some sweets and salty food. And the recipes are dang good. I still don’t love all veggies or fruit and prefer carbs but I do my best. Couple that with some exercise a few days out of the week and I am healthier than I have ever been. So is my family.
My BIG reason for change was for my children to have a heathy relationship with food and understand how certain foods effect their body so they can make healthy choices on their own. We have accomplished that!
People ask me how I can eat w/o restrictions, no diet pills, no required foods, no containers, no calorie counting, etc. I made a shift in how I viewed what I ate and I moved my body. I would be lying if I said I haven’t tried a few fads here and there but ultimately, just like 2+2 will always equal 4… I keep coming back to these 4 principles… Make good food choice, Eat More Veggies, Drink more water and Move More. When I do those 4 things, I am able to have the things that I enjoy and not feel bad about it NOR does it feel like a diet.
