So…WHAT can you eat when you are fighting the flu/nausea/vomiting?? I was pretty sure that I had it down. Well…I learned today that I had it all wrong. I hear FLUIDS FLUIDS FLUIDS all the time. So…you would think water would be okay.
WRONG!!! Water actually triggers vomiting.
Every time I would take a sip of water I would puke. TMI. I am sorry. I just want to pass this along to help you not make the same mistakes. Also tried to eat a piece of toast too early. It made me sick again. I called the doctor and this is what I was told.
Basically Yes, you do needs fluids BUT while you are vomiting or have diarrhea you should choose clear liquids such as
Bone broth
Any bullion or broth
Tea
Pedialyte
Sports drink (diluted, 1/2 water half drink)
Popsicles
NOT WATER!!
You want to have 1 tbsp of clear fluid or suck an ice pop. Wait 30 min. If you have stopped vomiting and don’t have diarrhea increase to 2 tbsp of clear Fluid or ice pop. Continue to Increase the amount every 30 minutes for 4-6 hours.
DO NOT EAT:
alcohol
pizza
fatty, fried, greasy or spicy food
uncooked or fresh fruit or vegetables
salad
When you have stopped vomiting, are tolerating fluids well and feeling hungry you can start with the convalescent diet which begins with the B.R.A.T. Diet.
Bananas
Rice/quinoa
Applesauce
Toast
Then move to:
Plain chicken
Plain pasta
Dry cereal
Crackers
Plain potato
Plain fish
Cooked veggies
Try to eat small amounts 6-8 times for 24 hours.
You can return to your balanced diet of protein, grain, fruit and vegetables as soon as you can tolerate it, but try to not rush it too quickly.
Please fell free to pass this along and share. Help someone get through the flu a little bit easier. it is never fun and the flu just plain SUCKS!! But I do feel better just by following this Diet and using my foam roller followed by an Epsom salt bath.
Stay Healthy!! Love you guys!
