I was looking through old pictures today and I came across a bunch of old NFL cheer pictures. WOW WHAT A DIFFERENCE. Let me start by saying…I am in shape in both pictures. I weight MORE in the second picture than the first. I felt GREAT and am happy in both pictures. HOWEVER lets talk about what is really different here aside from the obvious.
In the picture on the left is from 2004. I was 23. I weighed 119 lbs. I am was unhealthy. I lived off fast food and frozen meals. If I cooked it was usually super high in fat content and just not healthy. I think I put cream sauce on everything. I drank quick store bough protein shakes with a TON of sugar and no real nutritional value. I had NO clue about what clean eating meant. I thought If I ate a huge salad that I was eating healthy. I HATED veggies and fruit. I thought organic foods were just a trap to get you to spend more money and that there really wasn’t a difference. I didn’t treat my body well at all. I rarely worked out…well our practice was my workout. I partied late nights and I drank a lot of alcohol. The only reason I am smaller is because I was/am genetically blessed with a smaller frame. Both my parents and my entire family are just smaller.
The picture on right is NOW…
-I am 33. I weigh 128 lbs.
-I have 2 kids that I birthed ages 6 & 2.
-I am the most healthy I have ever been.
-I don’t “diet”, I just eat well on a regular basis.
-I understand the importance of eating fresh organic ingredients when possible and that food plays more a part of my health then exercise BUT that exercise is equally as important to do.
-I drink a superfood shake daily in place of a multivitamin and I exercise regularly at home. -I still eat out once or twice a week.
-I enjoy cupcakes and sweets but understand balance.
-I have a drink on a random occasion.
-My skin hair and nails are healthier.
-I have more energy.
-My body looks and feels better.
-I don’t focus on shaping or toning my body. I just live each day doing the consistent behaviors that are focusing on living my healthiest and happiest life.
-I surround myself with a support system that helps to hold me accountable for my choices.
SO…moral of the story…focus on BALANCE. Focus on educating yourself on what works best for you and is best for your body. Learn how to eat food that is both good for you and tastes good. Surround yourself with people that will help keep you accountable and support you and help you make choices that are best for your body. Ditch the scale. It’s just a number. ENJOY your life and feel great. You only have one body to carry you through this life. Take good care of it so it will take you farther.
